Registered on 16th Sept 1935 with an authorized capital of Rs 10.00 lakh and commenced business on 8th Feb 1936.Known as a common man's bank since inception, its initial help to small units has given birth to many of today's industrial houses. After nationalization in 1969, the bank expanded rapidly. It now has 1276 branches (as of 31st March 2004) all over India. The Bank has the largest network of branches by any Public sector bank in the state of Maharashtra.The bank has fine tuned its services to cater to the needs of the common man and incorporated the latest technology in banking offering a variety of services.

The benefits to cardholders include: Free ATM cards, free Credit Cards, free Remittance facility by DD/MT between accounts of Family members. Waiver of processing charges & concession of 1% in interest rates on Home Loans, Consumer Loans & other Personal Loans. Free facility for payment of bills through Bank's Mahabillpay Scheme. Concession in consultation charges for preparation of will & formation of Public Charitable and Family Trusts through Maharashtra Executive & Trustee Company (METCO) in specified regions i.E. Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Raigad. Free "Greenline Emergency Medical Card? in specified regions i.E. Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Raigad, to all the cardholders besides Mahabank Family Overdraft facility upto Rs. 1.00 lakh. The ceiling of family deposit has been lowered to Rs.50, 000/- for branches in Semi Urban and Rural areas. The scheme is now available through all our branches.
